Community Education
MDA Community Education empowers the neuromuscular disease (NMD) community through high-quality, responsive, and relevant educational programs and materials focused on overcoming barriers to access, navigating life's transitions, and making informed decisions about their care.
These in-person, multi-session symposiums provide information from leading experts on a variety of topics, as well as opportunities for the NMD community to engage with one another. They are held in various cities throughout the year.
Offered both live and on-demand, these virtual programs provide in-depth information from subject-matter experts on a variety of both disease-specific topics as well as topics related to daily living, social-emotional well-being, caregiving, and more.
New in 2024, these virtual seminars focus on navigating major life transitions such as receiving a new diagnosis and moving into adulthood. Seminars are interactive, offer a small group environment, and provide each learner with useful materials to supplement learning.
Available digitally, these expert-reviewed, print-ready materials include fact sheets on specific diseases, overviews of care guidelines, worksheets, teacher guides, and more. Many of these materials are also available in Spanish. New materials are always being added.
MDA’s Mentorship Program connects youth to mentors who are established in a variety of career fields, while providing hands-on learning in a supportive environment to discover their strengths and interests.
These on-demand, self-guided learning modules focus on increasing health literacy, empowerment, and self-advocacy to overcome barriers to treatment, education, employment, insurance coverage, and more.
MDA's Community Industry Update Webinars are programs which provide an opportunity for the community to receive information and updates impacting care and treatment directly from pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical equipment companies. Topics covered may include information on current clinical trials, drug development and information impacting your care experience.
