Activity Overview: 

This case study will explore the diagnostic odyssey of Bulbar Onset ALS in patient #2 (59-year-old-man).

Learning Objectives: 
  • Recognize clinical symptoms indicative of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Understand risk factors and genetic causes of ALS Understand the optimal workflow for diagnosis based upon physical examination, a detailed patient history, electrodiagnostic testing, genetic testing, and a variety of additional specialized tests, as needed
  • Understand the use of the ALSFRS-R scale to evaluate functional impairment in patients with ALS
  • Diagnose ALS with increased skill and confidence, shortening the diagnostic journey of patients with ALS
  • Understand how to optimize medical management of confirmed ALS according to best practice guidelines
