Periodic Paralysis Conference Connects Experts, Families

The 2011 Periodic Paralysis Association Conference will be held Nov. 4-6 in Orlando, Fla., and is geared toward people with periodic paralysis (PP), their families, physicians and friends.

This is not an MDA meeting, but several current and former MDA research grantees will be speaking. Among them are:

• Frank Lehmann-Horn from the University of Ulm (Germany);
• Robert Griggs from the University of Rochester (N.Y.); and
• Kathryn Wagner from the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore.

In addition to the featured presenters, the conference will include workshops on:

• how to communicate with the medical community while advocating for your health care;
• managing diet, medications and symptom triggers associated with periodic paralysis;
• finding emotional support;
• genetic testing for periodic paralysis; and
• how a research study works.

The meeting registration fee is $50 per person until Sept. 30, 2011, after which it is $75. Children younger than 10 are free.
