AMERICAN IDOL & MDA CELEBRITY AMBASSADOR ACE YOUNG RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM
TUCSON, Ariz., July 14, 2008 – Popular "American Idol" vocalist Ace Young, recently named a celebrity ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, released his self-titled debut CD on July 15.
The 27-year-old singer/songwriter, currently based in Los Angeles, joins the ranks of actors, musicians and other artists who have used their talents to help spread the word about MDA's lifesaving mission. While continuing to pursue his rising career, Young will speak and perform at MDA events and fundraisers, give media interviews and raise awareness about MDA’s battle against muscular dystrophy and related diseases.
"It's truly an honor for me to be able to help teach people about the need for treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy," Young said. "I see this as an opportunity to contribute to the day when kids and families will no longer be affected by these devastating diseases, and I'm happy to help lead the way."
Young's new CD, Ace Young, on Pazzo Music, includes the single "Addicted." The 11-song rock/R&B/funk collection includes seven songs written by Young, based on his experiences and observations of life.
Young has kept up a busy schedule since his seventh-place finish on the fifth season of the hit TV talent show "American Idol." He has performed as a guest on MTV's "Total Request Live," sung the national anthem at a summer Colorado Crush game and hosted a solo concert at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
He also turned his hand to writing, contributing a chapter to "Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul: Stories from the Idols and their Fans that Open Your Heart and Make Your Soul Sing" (Health Communications, November 2007).
Young was named one of People Magazine's "Hottest Bachelors" in 2006, and received a Grammy nomination in the Best Rock Song category for his songwriting credit in fellow "Idol" contestant Chris Daughtry's single "It's Not Over." (Daughtry collaborates on Young's new CD.) Also in 2006, Young released a single, "Shattered," which he performed, along with the Aerosmith classic "Dream On," on the 2007 Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon.
MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis said he's thrilled Young is teaming up with MDA and looks forward to the inspiration he'll bring to many. "Ace's talent and desire to make a difference will go a long way toward bringing MDA's message of hope and help to people affected by muscular dystrophy across the country," Lewis said.
MDA is a national voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 forms of muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education.
The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors.
