TOP TV TALENT DUO TO CO-HOST JERRY LEWIS MDA TELETHON
TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 23, 2007 — Two familiar faces from top-ranked television programming again will be on hand as co-hosts of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon this year.
Jann Carl, correspondent for the entertainment news show “Entertainment Tonight,” and Tom Bergeron, host of “Dancing with the Stars” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” reprise their roles for the legendary broadcast, now in its 42nd year.
Bergeron and Carl, both MDA national vice presidents, between them have more than five decades in the entertainment industry. Their on-stage talents as performers, interviewers and spokespeople for MDA and its lifesaving mission have helped make the Telethon an unparalleled fund-raising success.
“Working with professionals like Jann and Tom makes me both proud and humble,” Telethon star and MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis said. “They’re giants in their fields, yet they freely and generously volunteer their time to help children and families beset with these devastating muscle diseases.”
The Telethon broadcast begins at 9 p.m. EDT on Sept. 2 and lasts 21½ hours, originating from the new South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas. Programming includes scores of performances by top entertainers, updates on research efforts to battle muscle-wasting diseases and live interviews with families personally affected by those diseases.
MDA’s “Love Network” of some 190 television stations across the country will relay the show to 40 million viewers in the United States and Canada. At www.mda.org, Real Networks will make the show available to additional millions worldwide.
MDA is a voluntary health organization working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education.
