New York Businesswoman Elected to MDA National Leadership
TUCSON, Ariz., Dec. 2, 2005 — Jeanne Y. Russell of New York City
has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Muscular Dystrophy
Association.
During MDA's recent Board meeting in Las Vegas, Russell was named to
a one-year term as a director of the voluntary health organization.
The Board oversees MDA's programs in its quest to conquer neuromuscular
diseases.
Russell has worked in the investment management business since 1969,
managing institutional portfolios, as well as high net worth portfolios
for individuals. Russell formerly served as a senior vice president
of Fiduciary Trust Co. International, and managed MDA's pension fund
for more than 25 years.
Russell served as an MDA Board member from 1998 to 2002.
"MDA deeply appreciates Jeanne Russell's strong leadership skills,
professional background and her ongoing commitment to the Association,"
MDA President & CEO Robert Ross said. "Jeanne's contributions
are crucial to MDA's progress in seeking treatments and cures for muscular
dystrophy and other muscle-wasting diseases."
MDA is working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through
programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching
professional and public health education.
MDA maintains 240 hospital-affiliated clinics and 37 MDA/ALS centers
nationwide for adults and children affected by neuromuscular diseases,
including clinics in New York at Columbia University Medical Center,
home of the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig MDA/ALS Research Center; Mount Sinai
Hospital and Medical Center, also the site of an MDA/ALS center; and
the Hospital for Joint Diseases and Medical Center.
