GlobalMedia and Muscular Dystrophy Association Partner to Create First Web-Enhanced Telethon

TUCSON, Ariz., June 13, 2000 -- GlobalMedia.com (NASDAQ - GLMC), a provider of revenue-generating streaming media and e-commerce solutions, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association will unveil the world's first Web-enhanced telethon this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-4.

"Many of our 75 million viewers who see the show on TV are wired for the Internet, where the show is now also seen," Jerry Lewis, MDA National Chairman and Telethon star, said. "We're seeing phenomenal growth in World Wide Web use, so, to better serve our loyal Telethon audiences, we're breaking new ground with GlobalMedia. We're harnessing the power of converging media to enrich the Telethon viewing experience with on-demand information online about local MDA programs, our rapid research progress, and the celebrities appearing to help 'my kids.'"

He added that the Web-enhanced Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon will also give Internet users immediate access to classic moments from past MDA Telethons. They can also donate online and -- for the first time -- ask questions online, many of which will be answered live during the 21½-hour television broadcast.

"The Telethon is more than MDA's most important fund-raising event," Jeff Mandelbaum, president and CEO of GlobalMedia, said. "It's a sign of hope for millions affected by neuromuscular diseases all over the world. With the GlobalMedia player, we're helping to extend understanding and support of MDA's lifesaving research and services programs.

"But whether you're online or viewing the broadcast on television, our goal is the same -- an end to neuromuscular diseases, once and for all."

Mandelbaum explained that the more interactive Telethon experience GlobalMedia is creating should help increase online contributions. Since pioneering the first Telethon Webcast in 1998 and the first live multilingual programming on the Internet in 1999, MDA has seen its online contributions rise to $170,000.

To see the Telethon live online, Internet users should go to www.mda.org or www.real.com and download free RealNetworks' RealPlayer® software. Once they've done this, they'll be able to view the extensive on-demand material incorporated into the MDA GlobalMedia player scheduled to go live on MDA's Web site Aug. 21.

The live Telethon Webcast begins Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. EDT and ends Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. EDT. Contributions to help support MDA-funded research worldwide can be made online during the Telethon and year-round at www.mda.org using AT&T SecureBuy Service®.
